From 11 to 18 June 2026, two of our transnational mobility officers, Diletta and Jia, accompanied a group of 29 senior learners from Italy to discover the Zagori Ecomuseum in Greece. During this one-week mobility, participants explored the work of the Greek organisation dedicated to promoting natural, cultural, and sustainable tourism in the mountainous region of Zagori, an area recognised as part of UNESCO World Heritage.
Through a variety of visits and activities across the region, participants discovered the strong connection between cultural heritage, community participation, sustainability, and creativity. They learned how the Zagori Ecomuseum works closely with local communities to preserve, promote, and bring local heritage to life.
The group also explored several UNESCO-recognised initiatives and heritage elements, including the VikosโAoรถs UNESCO Global Geopark and transhumance, recognised as part of UNESCOโs Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This mobility offered participants the opportunity to discover an alternative approach to tourismโone centred on sustainability, agriculture, eco-products, local traditions, and community-led heritage initiatives.
